The Energy Vault storage solution operates with bricks that are lifted to create a tower causing the energy to be stored in the elevation gain, when the bricks are then returned to the ground the kinetic energy from the falling brick is turned back into electricity. Specially engineered control software is used to ensure the bricks are placed in exactly the right location each time. The system is modular and flexible with each plant having a capacity of between 10 and 35MWh and a power output of between 2 and 5MW. The system is ideally suited to longer duration storage but with very fast response times can also be used to deliver short and medium term. |
